Career Testing: How it works
You
do the testing program in the privacy of your home. It takes
approximately
three and one half hours to go through the entire
testing process. All of the tests are done on paper and are
administered by audio CDs or tape cassettes. All you need to
provide is a quiet
place, some pencils and a player for the CDs or tapes. There
are a total of thirteen tests, twelve of which are timed “performance”
tests. Each of them measures one or more innate abilities. The
Test
Administrator’s voice gives you complete instructions,
tells you when to start, stop and when to turn the page. You
also complete
a multi-page client information form that inquires deeply into
many aspects of your life and work.
When
you are finished, you send everything back to us.
Within
three business days, we score and interpret everything and
then send
the
results back to you. This
package includes your test results score sheet, written
materials, and a 90 minute generic
interpretation audio that explains each of the tests, what
it measures, and what it means if you are high, low or in
the middle in a particular
ability. These materials could be thought of as the “101
course” on your innate abilities. Clients find they
become very clear about their individual abilities by
matching
what
we're saying on the audio
with their day-to-day life.
The
final step is a one hour
telephone conference with us. At
the appointed time you call us for your conference. During
that conference, we go
over
your unique situation, talk over the issues
that you are trying to resolve, teach you to understand how
your
abilities
and your personality fit together and suggest specific
careers that
will best express your strengths. If you are in mid-career,
we help you to diagnose and understand what is not working
in your
present
job. We suggest that you spend
some time before your phone conference determining what
you want to tell us at the beginning of the session so that
you and we
use our time
together in the most productive way possible.
One
of the most valuable aspects of this telephone conference is
understanding how all of your abilities and your personality/temperament
can fit together.
Understanding the individual abilities was a first step, but now it is time to
talk about how they combine. Each of us has a unique profile
of abilities and personality traits. This complex mix is the
hand each of us has been dealt by Mother Nature. There
are more than 30,000 different possible combinations of the
traits
we
measure. We
show you
how your
natural talents "play" best together and what careers
best fit your profile.
Potential
clients often ask us just how specific are the suggested careers
we recommend. The great majority of the time, we can be extremely
specific. (For
example, medical students use the testing program to help choose
a specialty.) An even more important benefit is that the way
we
interpret and explain your abilities and personality traits
teaches
you to accurately assess how well you and various careers fit
together.
As the old expression goes, “Give them a fish and they
will eat
for a day; teach them to fish and they will eat for a lifetime.”
We teach you to fish rather than just give you a fish. We describe
your innate talents to you in a way that you can look into
yourself and
actually experience them. You can look back through your life
and
begin to understand exactly why some tasks are enjoyable and
others
are pure torture. You are not just limited to a list of potentially
fitting careers. This method gives you the ability to assess
other
options that may appear after your Career Testing Program.
In addition,
since your understanding is based on your own inner experience
and
personal sense of validity, you will be much more likely to
incorporate
what you have learned in your career decision making.
