CAREER TESTING DETAILS: A CLOSER LOOK

Why a career that fits your talents, abilities and personality is vital
Take a duck and drop it into a pond and in a matter of minutes, even without previous experience, it will happily and skillfully do what ducks do for a living. That’s because ducks have an ideal set of talents and abilities for their job! Each human being also has specific genetic abilities and talents that allow that same natural ease and expertise—but only in a fairly narrow range of careers.

Each of us is born with unique talents
Inborn abilities are completely different from acquired knowledge, skills and interests. Your interests can change and you can gain new skills and knowledge, but your natural talents will always be with you. You can’t change them, but you can learn to use them to your best advantage. The better you understand and utilize these genetic gifts, the more likely you will be to have a satisfying and successful career.

What happens when you and your talents are mismatched?
Because human beings are so adaptable, you survive, but at a terrible cost: the loss of the pure joy of a life spent being perfectly natural and consistently brilliantly. The farther you get from using your talents, the more likely it is that you will become bored or find your work frustrating and difficult. Supervisors often assume that less than brilliant work means the employee is inadequate; they fail to understand that generally the problem is that this employee's innate talents and/or personality don’t fit the job.

People enjoy doing work they do well naturally
Mastery is usually a result of adding time, energy, acquired skills and experience to a strong foundation of natural talent. When people are doing something they enjoy, they get more done and they do it better. Those whose careers utilize their strongest abilities continue to love their work, year after year, because their talents are perfectly aligned with what they do.

Can't I assess my natural abilities without a testing program?
Few of us have done more than scratch the surface of our own unique talents; what we know of them is based solely on what we have done before. For a new career direction, you don’t want to limit yourself just to choices suggested by your previous experiences; it is crucial to look at a broader and deeper range of possible career options than they could provide.

What we think of as “talent” is usually several innate abilities working together, instead. Like bread, we see the loaf, but not the ingredients. While bread itself has limited uses, supermarket shelves hold hundreds of items made from these same few ingredients combined differently. The best way to see new capabilities is to use an in-depth career-testing program that reveals the abilities that combine to make your talents.
