THE BEST USE OF The Pathfinder
Since The Pathfinder was published in 1998, nearly two hundred thousand people have used it to guide them through the process of designing their career. I hope these suggestions are helpful to you in your journey.
Readers report that neither putting the book under their pillow nor just reading it work. The book itself can't do a thing for you--but you can! Just read it to absorb insights, but when you’re ready to begin designing your career, plunge into doing the inquiries with your whole mind and heart. Though it may be difficult at times, sorting out what you will do is the really juicy-juicy part.
Design your own custom pathway. Do the parts you need, skip what you don't. I recommend that everyone read Section 1 and do its inquiries. The second section confronts those obstructive gremlins like the voices in your head telling you to avoid all risk. If you are immune to doubts, skip it. In the final section, you’ll get to sort out what you will do.
Give it time. It takes two or three months, maybe even longer, to figure out what you are going to do with your life. Don't rush.
Use the Pathfinder Career Testing Program. It is nearly impossible to effectively assess one's own innate talents and natural abilities and nothing is as important to career fulfillment as doing what you were born to do.
Remember, "stuck" is just a made-up concept. In reality, you have only stopped—so don’t give up, just go on to another part of the book.
If you feel you’re not progressing, try Rockport Institute’s Career Choice Program. Our expert personal coaching takes up where The Pathfinder stops.
